FOMO is Real!
Something we, not just those in the streaming sphere but in all of gaming, are often faced with is F.O.M.O, or the fear of missing out. With so many games releasing, more often than not back to back, that feeling never really fades. I, as a mostly variety streamer, feel this with every new announcement, every new game, every DLC update. This isn’t always a bad thing, but it does give a degree of stress in what to play.
As a good example of what I mean by the fear of missing out in gaming, we would just need look at earlier this year. January saw Monster Hunter Rise releasing on the 12th of January, followed two days later by God of War on the 14th on PC. Both amazing games, but not leaving much time to enjoy either so close together. One month later in February on the 17th fighting fans received King of Fighters XV, and those same fans that also play adventure RPG games had the following day to play Horizon Forbidden West. I faced difficulty in March deciding between Kirby & Tiny Tina, and again in July now that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 released the day before Digimon Survive.
Now I did say it wasn’t all bad. I missed out on playing Elden Ring, instead opting to play Stranger of Paradise. Did I miss out on a great game, that I plan to go back to play? Yes. Did I embrace the meme nature to enjoy the other? Absolutely. Just like I’ll be skipping The Last of Us Part 1, instead playing as Joseph Joestar. In all of this what I am getting at, is that if we take the time to slow down, not get ourselves needing to pick up every release, every AAA game, one can find a hidden gem.
So we all have F.O.M.O, it’s part of human nature in the modern age. Just remember not to over look those indie games, or the fear of your growing and looming gaming library to the point you stress yourself out too much when picking your nice banger of a game.
