The Witching Hour

dark eerie forest

The Witching Hour is a story-driven psychological horror, with a fate system of 5 endings. Released in May of this year (2022), this was the fifth game by developer/publisher Vincent Lade. This story begins with your father moving you and your sister to the quiet town of Hollow Hills. Hollow Hills has a sordid past rich in witchcraft. As the story develops, you have confrontations with the matriarch of the town’s affliction with witchcraft, Lucilia.

THE WITCHING HOUR TRAILER

This game includes a lot of puzzles, some small and simple, while some are a bit frustrating. There are a few jump scares that are very well placed. The voice acting was okay but it lacked from time to time. I was impressed by the atmosphere the sounds gave to the game which enhanced the game. Witching Hour’s art style is different from Vincent Lade’s other games but just as impressive and unique. The story and atmosphere of this game are the true gems.

Overall, this game was rich in character development, atmosphere, and had an intriguing story. With a playtime of three to five hours approximately, depending on whether or not you wanted to get all the endings, you could get more than your money’s worth in this game. After originally only playing the demo for this game, it quickly was added to my wish list. I fell in love with this developer’s style in all the games he creates and have bought them all. I highly recommend this game to all gamers that like the original Silent Hill game, as this was inspired by it.
