Utilizing Multiplayer Games to Build a Community for Your Stream

Multiplayer games have and always will be a great way to bring people together. Thus playing them on your live stream can be a great way to build a community. Community building is vital for a stream to create repeat viewers as well as convert to subscribers or contributors to your content. Here’s the why and how to utilize multiplayer games to build a community for your stream.

Why Multiplayer Games Build Communities.

Gaming as a whole brings people together. However, multiplayer games are able to do this a bit more. Multiplayer games work to do this for a few reasons:

  1. Let people play together: The first and obvious reason is it allows people to play together. Being able to game together builds a sense of community since they get to engage and share a common interest with each other.

  2. Players can discuss and share information: While gaming together, players are able to discuss and share information they have relevant to the gameplay or to other parallel topics that come up during their time playing.

  3. Players can create stories together: With table top games or Dungeons and Dragons, you’re able to create a story together. This allows for deep bonding as players will roleplay and narrate out a fantasy they build together.

Motivates players to engage in communicating: When participating in multiplayer games, players will feel encouraged to communicate with other players. This helps to build community by engaging with one another about anything they desire.

How to Use Multiplayer Games to Build a Community in Your Stream

Now you might be wondering, how can I incorporate multiplayer games into my streams to grow a community? Well these tips are sure to help!

  1. Playing with viewers or subscribers: This is a simple way to really let your viewers or contributors be a part of the community. Offering the ability to play with you so you can engage with members of your audience and play alongside them will help your audience connect with you more so it feels like they’re a part of the community.

  2. Coaching: Offering coaching on how to play or “get good” at different multiplayer games is a great way to discuss and share information in order to build a community via a multiplayer game but also using education as well.

Using channel points or third party platforms to engage: You may have heard of Twitch channel points or other platforms like StreamLoots or Dixper that lets your community engage and interact with you and your gameplay. You can add these as ways to engage with your multiplayer game so your community can feel like they’re apart of the fun.
